From the Daily Mail, Sept September 3 1904 Every house fitted for electric light will soon be able to participate in the labour-saving appliances which inventors have perfected for the benefit of housewives.
In addition to this electrically-heated flat-irons can now be obtained as well as electric hot-water bags for the bed, electric curling iron heaters, electric chafing dishes, toasters and coffee urns. Adding machines are the latest refinement in offices in the United States. These machines are now extensively used in all office and factory computations, such as balancing and averaging accounts, discounts, addition, multiplication and division and combinations of these operations. These machines come from Switzerland and Germany, and so useful have they become that the office staff will actually wait for a machine rather than attempt the simplest mental calculation. The "Addograph" is an improved design combining the work of the typewriting machine and adding machine in one operation, the nine numerical keys of the typewriter keyboard setting the eighty-one numerical keys of the adding machine. ![]() ![]() |
